F.A.Q. Underwater Photoshoot

As a professional underwater photographer I receive a lot of questions about the requirements to do an underwater photoshoot and how it works, so I created this article to answer the questions that I receive the most.

For further information or book your photoshoot please contact me sending an email at info@annaaaitaphotography.com

Do I have to be able to swim to do an underwater photoshoot?

No, it is not required but it’s important to be able to stay calm and relaxed with the head underwater for a few seconds. We can create amazing images even in the shallow water (or with the face outside the water) but it’s important to be comfortable inside the water and keep your body and face relaxed. A certified safety diver is always present. During the consultation I ask my future client to talk frankly about their swimming skills and level of comfort underwater. In case an underwater photoshoot is not recommend we can always plan a creative photoshoot in studio or outdoor.

For how long do I have to hold my breath?

It’s not necessary to be able to hold the breath for a long period of time. Usually 10-15 seconds is enough time for me to snap a photo. If it is your first underwater photoshoot I also offer underwater modeling coaching prior to the photoshoot where I teach posing and buoyancy control.

Do you shoot in a pool or in the nature?

Both. My pool is my underwater photography studio and it is located in Jacksonville, Florida. But I also love to shoot at the beautiful Florida Springs in the area where the water is crystal clear and the natural scenery is incredible.

Do you have a wardrobe or do I need to bring my own outfit?

I have dresses, skirts and props that my clients can use and I also offer consultation in case you want to bring your own outfits because it’s important to know what is safe and looks good underwater and what not.

Can I eat before the photoshoot?

A light meal is recommended a couple of hours before the photoshoot. You can bring snacks and drinks because being in the water takes a lot of energies!

How long does an underwater photoshoot lasts?

I usually don’t have a time limit. I want my clients to enjoy the experience without rush and taking the breaks they need. Typically an underwater photoshoots last around 2-3 hours but it could be even less if we already have all the shots that we want.
